Positive thoughts for Arch please - does anyone know the side effects of tramadol??
I'll start by saying I'm 9 hours ahead of everyone in the UK. Arch had his worst day ever today. His back end was very saggy, his back legs were bent but he still wanted to chase his ball.
He came home and when it came to tea time (and Arch loves his food) he didn't want to stand up. I wanted to give him some metacam so I hand fed him while he was laid on the floor (in an upright position if you know what I mean).
I'm taking him to the vet Sunday morning for another injection. Does anyone know the side effects or have had a dog on tramadol? My friend is a human doctor and won't prescribe it for her patients as the side effects are sickness and dizziness which is the last thing I want Arch to feel......
I know it's more than hip displaysia - Arch looks the same now as Harry. He's never been the same since his last C5 injection. I can pin point it exactly - or maybe it was co-incidence???
Anyway...we're going to the vets first thing Sunday morning - but my heart is telling me that he has the same look in his eye as my cat did before he was PTS and Harry.
I'm hoping some pain relief will help - but in the meantime if anyone should read this before Sunday morning (my time) and have had a dog on tramadol please can they let me know if it helped their dog or if they had nasty side effects.
Thank you......

Thank you - I've googled but it's always good to hear from people whose dogs have been on the drug. I hate seeing him like this - he is such a proud boy and been such a big part of my life for nearly 12 years. He's always been there for me - I just want to do what's best for him.

Oh no Lisa I hope Arch is feeling a bit better when you read this. Your poor old boy- I know how much he means to you.
Tracy (Sami) recommended tramadol to me for Polka so maybe you could PM her for advice. When i asked my vet about it he said he was keeping that for a last option as he didn't want Polka to get used to it because when the pain got worse it wouldn't be able to help, if you know what I mean.
Thinking of you and Arch just now, hope Arch has a peaceful night and your vet can offer some help tomorrow xx

And I'm sure you will. Don't beat yourself up, your pets know you love them. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear your dog is so poorly :-(
I have no experience of giving a dog tramadol but far too much experience (for my liking) of taking tramadol - it tries to exit my body at the speed of light and totally floors me, I can't move after taking it.
However, just because it's not right for me, doesn't mean to say it's not right for someone else or indeed an animal. Maybe the vet is able to offer alternatives to the tramadol.
Hope tomorrow sees a positive outcome for you

I hope Arch is feeling better... and you
hope everything goes well at vets
Don't know anyone with dog on tramadol but they put my mum on it few years back - had to take her off... it did really strange mind things and totally wiped her out.
Thinking of you and hope your vet can offer some help tomorrow
xx
