Does your GSD put it on for sympathy????

Last week I had one of those heart-stopping moments. Arch has very bad hips - when he was two he was scored at 34 36. He is now 9 years old. Every now and then he limps but he's not on pain killers just glucosamine and I still have injections and tablets to fall back on.

My husband was walking him whilst I was at work with Ella-Bella - he turned his head away and the next thing Arch was screeching in pain.

He got him to the car and kept him quiet at home. I got in took one look at him and took him to the vet. My husband claimed that Arch wasn't too bad until I came home and then he was looking for sympathy so sat there with his leg up!

I took him to the vet who insisted on x-raying him. I couldn't work out why as when he examined the leg there was movement.

The vet didn't tell me until aftewards but he thought Arch had bone cancer. Luckily that was not the case - however there are boney spurs and a faint crack in his elbow joint caused by arthritus.

After Arch was x-rayed and got home there was an amazing improvement and he was most put out at being rested!! Does anyone elses GSD act like "wounded soldier" when they're there but make an amazing recovery when they're not around!

He's made an amazing recovery - but he does look to me for sympathy. I'm so glad I've got him to 9 as if I had listened to the vet when he was 2 he really didn't think Arch would last more than two years with his hips.

I love my boy dearly - but he's a very expensive pet!!

Oh bless him...he clearly knows how to get the sympathy vote Glad he's ok though!

If Diesel runs into our coffee table and we're sitting on the sofa, he'll stop dead, lift his leg so you can rub it better, but I saw him do the same thing the other day, he didn't know I'd seen and he just walked off with no hint that he'd hurt himself He totally knows how to play the sympathy card!!!

Similar thing happened to George the other day..........he was running down a hill and his back legs just went on him, he looked at me and I swear he had tears in his eyes.

Oh Lucky LOVES sympathy! He gives uis those puppy dog eyes, a fake limp, and up he gets on the sette or bed and he is well away. None of us have the heart to shift him.

lol George is nicely tucked up on the sofa as I type, he know I will not move him later..........I will sit on the floor lol

YES tyson did it with us and we took him to the vet as we thought his back legs were going and as soon as we got there he was fine. the vets answer was that "he is a male you know so he will play on it alot "man flu" and all that!!!" and still to this day if i say how is your leg old man he starts to limp around on the wrong leg!!!! bless him he's my baby so i dont mind

"Man flu"... Well I'm offended.

But yes I've had Keerah fake things to get sympathy. Who's getting trained owners or dogs? More then likely a little of both.

A friend of mine had an old cocker spaniel that would "cough and hack like a dying mule" They spent tons in vet bills only to find out that despite her age she was the picture of health. When she did this she was cooed and fawned over. After looking back they realized that the behavior cropped up after they had gotten a younger dog. Seeking her lost attention perhaps ?? LOL!

Its not just GSDs. My Connor, a Cairn x puts on the puppy face (his about 6) with the ears back when he wants Mummy cuddles or not getting something he wants.

My old GSD x Benson used to howl the place down if you accidently stepped on him (when a puppy) or did something. You cuddled him and he would howl louder. He would quieten, look sideways at you to check you were still cuddling and then howl some more!
