I hope everyone doesn't mind me posting so much about Harry
Harry had an upset tummy late yesterday evening and even though he rushed to the door he had an accident. I spoke to my vet (who has been wonderfully supportive) who told me that in my eagerness to put weight on Harry I am probably overfeeding him and to increase his food gradually. I also had to keep him on the same food as he was in the pound which was a cheap supermarket brand - however Harry had no issues on this whilst he was there so I am going to keep him on the same food.
Harry is a true Aussie. He woke me to go out at 6am and then he wanted to play with his toys and go for a walk! I explained to Harry that he was living with POMS now and we (well our household anyway) do not like to get up at that time unless we have to!
We took Harry to the park today with Arch and Ella-Bella. His last trip in the car was very noisy - he was still a bit whiney but he saw that Arch and Ella-Bella weren't making any noise and quietened down.
We are very lucky here in Brisbane that we have a fenced off-leash area as Harry is deaf so we could let him off his lead and not worry about him going off anywhere and not being able to call him.
He wanted to chase his ball and we threw it a couple of times and then he held up his back leg. OH was horrified and said it was my fault for throwing the ball but a few minutes later Harry was walking as though nothing had happened. Is this usual for CDRM? When this happens to Arch it's usually metacam time and straight back to the car but Harry doesn't seem to feel any pain.
We finished off with a stroll back through the mangroves by the bay and I put a head collar on Harry as boy this dog can pull!! He let me put it on today so we've made progress already.
I have to say he has a lot of energy for a 12 year old dog
Got him back in the car and he was as happy as can be - not a bark or a whine at all!!
He had a nap and then wanted to play some more and is now resting from his exhausting day.
He looks to Arch and Ella-Bella almost for guidance and he's such a clever boy because he's already picking up what the hand signals mean.
I think at some point someone must have cared for Harry as he seems to have such a nice nature, is house trained and must have had some basic training. It's therefore such a mystery why he ended up in such horrible condition.
A few people did look at him today and looked at me and I shouted out "he's a rescue". Not really offended as they must be animal lovers to look so concerned.
No matter how long we have Harry he's bringing us so much joy and I am so proud of Arch and Ella-Bella as they have been so good with him and them being so confident and well balanced seems to be having a positive effect on him.
Puppycinno day on Saturday - can't wait and yes there will be pictures
