Sad..

I have been looking at adopting another dog recently and we have decided on an older dog.
I cam across this website, its so sad

Oldies Club

Why dont people want to take on older dogs?? I wish i had the money to take them all!

Oh there's so many of them. I wish I could take a load too! Although I don't think an older dog would want to live with my crazy pup!

It is very Sad and recently I tried to adopt an Oldie called WillowIt was not to be
And the experience has put me off any adoption in the near future because I was given wrong info about her
It broke my heart and I really fell in love with her
To make matters worse when I looked at her page it isnt there and ive tried to contact the rescue but they are not responding
Im dreading giving them a call as I fear she may not be in this world anymore
But it is absolutely heartbreaking to see so many in rescue be it pup adult or Oldie

thinks its difficult with the oldies

I do alot of homechecks for german shepherd rescue uk and biggsd and i've only ever come across one person who actually wanted to bring in an old dog.

I guess its because they want a dog they can spend many years with and some are worried about the costs associated with an older dog

LOVEGSD is just really niceLOVEGSD is just really nice
Like you all if I had the money and the space I would definitely take in more GSD's and that would include an oldie!!

Good luck with your search for a new addition though Sarah...xx

I must be an exception to the rule then lol
Loads of Pro's with an oldie Me thinks esp if they are toilet trained
The fact that they might have a shorter life well theres no guarantees hey but I love em and wish my experience hadnt put me off but who knows maybe I will try again but not get so attatched next time

We have decided on a older dog because they are 'ready made' lol. we would rather take on a dog that has a few years left so they can live out their time in a nice environment, not in kennels.

Having an older dog would be good for Sally, a nice calming influence (she is more relaxed when with other dogs)
Some older dogs get a new lease of life when put with a younger pet (our old girl lady certainly did)
They have some degree of training and socialisation.

As for costs, Sally is only 20 months and costs a fortune!

We want to wait until we are settled in our new place but in a few months we should have a 'second hand' dog to add to our family.

xx
