My Old Boy
Hi there my GSD is now 11 he has been neutered 4 years ago, the last few days he has being urinating in the kitchen floot over night also when im at work not being able to hold it in. He is eating noremally and drinking water as usual. Im going to take him to the vet with urine sample later - anyone had any similar experiences? I know i will have to come to terms with him getting older etc. Its so sad to see him doing this - my poor boy.

I have experience of this!!!
My Sami is 12 and has had a few problems over the last year. She started peeing (and pooping) everywhere about nine months ago. She had (please god let it still be had and not has) AF and she was obviously in a lot of pain and discomfort and I think plainly just depressed. Once I got her pain under control and ultimately the AF with a different vet she stopped doing it. She does occaisionally have an accident but thats usually when I have entrusted my husband to make sure she has a wee before she goes to bed. She used to be able to hold her self for hours and hours obviously as they get older they cant.
Hope the vet has some advice for you but if he rules out some problem with the water works it might be worth considering whether he is in pain from arthritus etc it is often difficult to pin down why they have started to behave differently as they get older.

Hi, and welcome.
It could just be a water infection, hope its something simple, let us know how he gets on, as they get older the worrying starts, My Nikki is almost 12 and am just starting now to see the small changes in her that no one else can see yet

Been to vets
Hi Guys
Thanks very much for the replies, I took a sample of urine to the vet and it seems there is blood in his urine. He did a quick scan on him to see if there was any major causes in the bladder nothing was obvious. I am trying him on antibiotics for 10 days and Hopefully this will clear it up. Failing that he will have to go back for a proper scan under sedation.
My vet did advise it is not common for an older dog which has been neutered to get infections. More prone to bitches.
Well hopefully it clears up and we are back to norm
:-) x

Yes please let us know how you go on.
Sami just had her pee tested and there was some blood in it but no infection my vet was not too concerned said that a small amount on its own in an elderly dog was not a problem but she has to be retested next week anyway for other reasons.
Try not to worry I know its easy said but you can only take it a day at a time as they get older.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I think if this is a sudden developement, then I wouldnt think it is too much to worry about, if it was down to age, I think it would have been more likely to have creapt in over a longer period of time,.. this sounds too quick to be that.
Dont think that dogs that get old,..automaticly lose control of themselves,..some do of course,.. but the last two of my dogs to die of old age never did
Lets see what the antibiotics do first,..please keep us informed
