My storm 10.5 yrs slowing and her eyes.

Noticed my storms eyes are starting to glaze over i really don't want to operate on her for things that are not life threatening does anybody's else dog have this problem , shes still in great shape and can still jump a 7 ft wall easy if needed ( but wouldn't let her ) as she's my oap and needs alittle extra cuddles and extra blankets now and sleeps most of the time apart from Odin wanting to raggle her.

sami is a jewel in the rough
I noticed Sami's eyes had a blue glaze a couple of years ago but the vet couldnt seem to see them (!). She quite obviously cannot see properly now (she is deaf as a post too) but she can see shapes and movements. It doesnt seem to bother her she can get about fine so she can obviously see enough for that. The only problem is she is a barker (after 12 years I give in she beat me!!). She has always barked at dogs, which the other dog never seems too concerned about as they walk straight up to her as she is barking!! The problem now is she barks at people if she cant tell if they have a dog, particularly if they are carrying a bag, so I have to keep apologising to people. I dont really like her barking at people but most people are quite understanding. I have to tell them to speak to her then she just wags her tail and has a fuss.

I know its a worry with these older dogs but I take the opinion now that if its not bothering the dog then I dont interfere, that is better (for me anyway) than risking losing her under anaesthetic etc.

Hope this helps I know I was a bit longwinded.

Tracy

I think storm's maybe gone a bit deaf too as sometimes in the middle of the night when i come down stairs she is curled up in her bed and she does not move, so i call her name and she still does not move and then i begin to feel sick and think omg she's dead , i slowly walk over and prod her and slowly she will wake up and look at me to say what the hell have you woke me up for ....bless her

Yep Sami does that too if shes asleep at the bottom of the stairs she jumps out of her skin when you step over her. Scary how often you find yourself watching them sleep to see if they are still "going up and down" in the chest area. My neighbours must be getting a bit fed up of me screaming "sami" at the top of my voice when shes wandering around in the garden trying to attract her attention, I have to wave my arms and clap my hands at her.
