I have known Manpol not to call them off with certain people, they dont put them in bark & hold they let them bite severly certain people, at one time they had some particular aggressive dogs - Storms brother for one

Never heard anything like that happening in New Zealand, though I find it interesting that so many personnel and members of the public were injured.

Police dogs scare the heck out of me, to be honest. I've only ever seen them in a demonstration in primary school. I'd hate to run afoul of one in real life, though.

There were a couple of police dog vans outside our house last week, looking for a woman who went missing. I couldn't reverse out of my drive to go to work, so went over to ask how long they'd be there.

Anyway i chatted to the handler about sheps as she saw my 2 looking out of the window. I asked if I could see her dog, in the van - she warned he'd bark at me - I looked in, and he went absolutely crackers! Quite a different animal to my softies!

As a cop I would prefer to go to a job with a handler and their dog than 10 other cops... You can be standing there, a whole bunch of you, and some people will be shouting and swearing and threatening, but when the dog comes out they are nice as pie!
One handler used to let me take his sniffing spaniel out for a pee when we were at the nick- I've never been dragged around so much by any dog!! He never offered to let me take his GSD... And I probably would have declined

Where I sometimes walk Diesel we keep bumping into a very nice policeman who is also excercising his dog. I got there one day whilst he was putting his dog away I asked him if he wanted to make Diesel heel as his dog had completed it very nicely - he said

"no thanks he's too big for me a bit scary - I've seen you handle him ok"

!'m only 5ft 5!!!!!

now I know why he makes a beline for the other end of the field if he sees we are already there!

In my own personal opinion this is what happens to dogs that are enouraged to bite!!! Yes these are trained police dogs, they are doing their jobs catching the bad guy but for someone to recieve upto £49,000 in compo... well what must that dog have done to him/her!!! and 155 members of the public bitten!!!

This is why I have a pet! not protection dog!
