The ‘Sport’ of Dog Showing - Should We Embrace the Cheats?

written by Karen Clark-Stapleton of EuroBichons.com We in Britain are regarded as a nation of dog lovers, some may argue that just isn’t the case as figures show that abuse towards animals and dogs in particular is rising, mostly due to fighting rings and the sickening trade in selling dogs on a mass scale from [...]

I don't think we should embrace the cheats of the dog showing world at all, I think it's disgusting the lengths some people go to to pamper their dog for the show ring.

It's also so bad that the judges are biased towards dogs they know - how this is ever a fair competition??

I also went to crufts for the first time this past year and witnessed the 'double handling' of GSDs in the ring...all this a day before I collected Henry. I was so incensed by what I saw that I complained to the officials and said I was really disappointed that Crufts allow that stuff to go on. When one of the 'handlers' not in the ring was distracting the dog in the show ring to make him perk his ears etc, I couldnt beleive it. The person actually crouched down behind me in the crowd to make silly noises. I asked him "do you have a problem down there"? Sadly he was german and didnt answer me, so I made for the man in the green suit (official) who said they had been warned many times b4. I said I expect you will have something to say to the show winner then? And the one who came second?? He did nothing of course. I wont be going again.
I didnt know this went on at all and it immediately cured any ideas I had about showing and showing people (not all obviously). It is they who are the odd breed if you ask me. Forget it.
