WTF! The mother should of been with the baby. You never trust a dog 100%. Despite how much we all love our dogs we can never say we trust them fully with children. That poor little mite, so easily prevented.

OMG!!! I completely agree with you Allycat you should never leave any children alone with a dog....some children have never been taught how to behave around dogs and this is the reason I would never leave Diesel alone with a child.

Such a tragedy... especially since it could have been prevented as mentioned never leaving a child unsupervised let alone with a dog you just cant risk it...

When my children were small we had 2 Cairn Terriers, they were loved by everyone and were the sweetest of dogs, BUT never once did I leave the children alone with the dogs. I would trust my life with my dogs, then and now, but not with the lives of small babies and children; as has been said you just don't know what the children get up to nor what the reaction of the dog would be. I have watched my 9 year grandson in the garden with Ailsa who is a very submissive and motherly type dog - he didn't know I was there - and as much as he loves dogs, he started teasing her and getting a little irritated and bored with her over a ball tug, children can be spiteful and dogs don't always understand- I'm sure he wouldn't have rough-housed or pushed her but who knows? then maybe the game would have got rougher etc. etc. and one thing leads to another.... so far better to always supervise I think....
