An Open Letter to the Kennel Club: You Haven’t Earned the Right for Statutory Powers
Yesterday we learned that the Kennel Club has asked the government to give it statutory powers to insist that all dogs bred must be registered with the Kennel Club’s accredited breeder scheme. This is a request that is sure to draw massive objections from breeders and dog experts alike who do not agree that the [...]

Sorry so do not see how this is going to work; take my position I hip scored my dog and his hips are over the breed average but under the 106 which allows me to breed from him......ok the KC wants more tests
Sinareo situation, I have decided to breed my dog, have the elbows scored, eyes, hem; do all the tests that the KC recommend and the test show that my dog is ok to breed.
Will they look into my dogs pedigree as a whole or just the results from the one dog ????
There is many dogs in my dogs pedigree with hd/high hipscores, epi, would these dogs be taken into consideration before I am allowed to register my dogs litter with the KC ???????
Sorry but not feeling very confident with the changes that want to be made

I don't know of anyone who has any confidence in the KC to be honest...imo they should be shut down and started again from the beginning with new staff and a new attitide.
Joanne I agree with what you've said, how far back would the KC check - it's not a reassuring situation is it?!

Taff people are and still do breed above the breed average (19) there is nothing to stop me breeding George and then registering the litter as KC pups , under the KC at the minute you can breed a dog with hips totaling 106 and if your read the BRS there is breeders breeding dogs with really high scores,

I thought I'd read that wrong!!! 106, Who in their right mind would breed from a dog with a hip score as high as that?

Jo, I understand completely where your coming from. The solution to these problems is going to be really tricky to implement. It is ok hip scoring, and only breeding from dogs with low scores, but if there are known siblings, or others in the lineage that have confirmed HD, then there is always the possiblilty of it occuring in the litter. Realistically, they would have to check the pedigree, which is not that easy to do, especially as there are so many dogs not scored. This would obviously get easier to do, as time goes on, and more data becomes available.

As long as puppy farms exist we'll never really know whats going on.If the kennel club want to earn any respect from me they need to focus their considerable assets at getting rid of these opportunists rather than trying to take control of breeders who actually care about their breeds, dogs and the pups they produce.
