Dog cocking his leg

Hia all, god its been hard to get on tonight.

Anyhow my dog keeps cocking his leg on the cat litter trays.
He has been doing this for about a week.
The cats are usually put outside during the day, but i have been letting them stay in as its gone colder and because of the snow etc. And when i go out they are all kept together in the kitchen, i have done this before lots of times. I have changed the cat litter trays to those with a top on but taken the swing door off it. And now everytime i go out he cocks his leg on it. This is beginning to stress me out as he usually waits to go. I havent made a thing of it with him as i dont want to give him any attention, or shout at him.
He is usually such a good dog.
Do you think he is copying the cats, in his thinking if they can go so can he???
Maybe i should litter train him.
But seriously...... any ideas welcome, has anyone else had this problem.

Thank you much.

Take the top off and maybe he will go in the litter too!!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

He is probably scent marking, weeing over the top of the cats smell (well trying to). Not sure how to stop it other than put the tray where he can't get to it!

Definitely I'd try this, if it's not there he can't p**s on it

I've got one cat left now but my boys have in the past 'marked' the tray when we've had to have one if one of the cats have needeed a tray,

Good luck xxx
