success on the chain lead!
I went along with the advice given from some of you and got Maverick the chain lead.....he had a couple of little bites on it and clearly wasn't impressed! We've had some good walks and no lead bitting so thanks for your help....such a simple solution! Now i just need to address him weaving in and out of my legs lol. xxxx

Ah fab to hear you've had success, go with the advice Sarah's given about stopping re-positioning and off you go again.

Another alterntive is to hold the lead with both hands. By this I mean keep hold of the lead on the opposide side to Maverick and lightly hold midway down the lead, this encourages them to stay on one side. Can also be used in conjunction with training to walk on a loose lead, put a tasty treat in the hand closest to the dog with your hand lightly holding part way down the lead, let dog know the 'reward' is there and release randomly when dog is walking on loose lead!
Might not help too much at the moment with a chain lead, but with the above exercise you could potentially go back to using a 'normal' lead for comfort and training!

It can be very painful if the dog is prone to pulling. I'm personally not a huge fan of chain leads, I prefer to encourage away from the lead using a treat that then becomes a reward for the desired behaviour.
