I understand ur concerns about his development but trust me after 20yrs of owning them and never had one with any hip issues and grown up with them in my family and none of them with any hip problems is that every shep has different requirements and different needs and this is something every owner should take into account when owning a shep there strong, highly intelligent, hard workers and aim to please i believe in building up a good muscle structure in my dogs which is helped by adequate exercise every day from puppy hood this is where allot of owners fail there sheps by limiting there exercise to a very small amount which also equals weak hind quarters or even elbows.
So dont buy into everything u read

We are looking at the 48" crate, does anyone know a good website? So far ebay is coming up the best.
I got my 48'' crate from doggie solutions
Its a good crate but quite thin although is does the trick

Hi Hilary,

I think we have decided against a crate, just as I personal would feel bad.

But we are going to buy a fixed gate to put on the bottom of the stairs and leave him in the hall way where he will have more room.

please be aware that gates are not foolproof, Sacha can jump ours and Rory just bashes his way through it and takes half the wallpaper off when he does it
