Question to raw feeders

I feed Ozzie on raw, and buy the bulk of his food ready done from suppliers. I do buy ox heart from the butchers though as they are really cheap. What I want to know is, when I chop the heart up for him, do I leave the fat on or take it off? I worry that too much would be bad for him, but hubby says not. Anyone know whats best?

ox heart
The meat is lean, tightly packed and without the necessary additions of collagen and fat.
Personally I feed lambs hearts and they are more milder and IMO more nutritious due to there age and size.
Dogs need a certain amount of fat in their diet.

I'd leave the fat on. We used to leave it on for our Stafford, and he was very lean & strong & lived to nearly 15! Even then it was only prostate cancer that took him.

My GSD & Bull Terrier both get the occasional ox heart & yes, we leave the fat on - there really isn't that much on them to worry about.

yes leave the fat on sweetie.

I have never fed Ox heart, or ever seen one. I use to get Deer heart, & split it in two for Harvey & Heidi.

I tried him with lamb heart, he will eat it eventually, but he much prefers the ox, that disappears in no time! And like I said, the local butcher lets me have a whole heart for £1.50, so cheap as chips!

Wow, deer heart! Round here that would cost a fortune to buy!

Mine has heart and I leave the fat on too. Heart is classed as muscle meat not offal and is great for them.

My butcher does me a raw dog mix... £1.50 gets me 5 x 1lb frozen bags which is minced heart, liver, lung, tripe, tongue and any other meat off-cuts. Bargain!

Agreed, leave the fat on.

I am not short on getting a raw supply of food, but I have wished in the past that our butcher would do a raw diet, all the butchers around here are telling us that they are not allowed to do it,.. it being against health and safty

Most of them round here are like that too. We can can get the hearts from one butcher and he does occasionally get tongue, but that is your lot!
