Bones question

Did i read somewhere once that when giving raw bones (only as a treat im not brave enough to do totally raw) that they should be frozen then defrosted before being given? I got a few bones from the only butcher round here that will keep them and sell them for dogs.

I shall be hung, drawn and quartered for this, but I get Cassie some bones from my hubby's butcher friend's shop and the bones go straight from the shop to her mouth. They never see the freezer. But I do make sure I give her a good few hours between giving her a raw bone and her kibble. This is because the raw food and the kibble digest at a different rate.
If my memory serves me right, by freezing the raw food and bones it kills off any bacteria that could or may be present.

Me too. Some people kick up merry hell about freezing everything first to kill off bacteria but I don't think its necessary.

Sheba, being Sheba, prefers her bones either still slightly frozen... or old and having been round the floor a few times :P

so I tend to let her have them from the freezer, its more hygienic
but I would feed straight from the butcher if she's hungry enough to eat them straight away!!

When I use to feed raw, I gave them bones straight from the butchers with no probs at all.

Yep me too. Usually my butcher gives me loads though so I have to freeze them.
