Nice Change?

Hi,

Jude is now on adult food!!!

When he was on puppy food he was fed Royal Canin German Shepherd Junior.

He is now on Royal Canin German Shepherd Adult.

Jude is funny with his food, he goes through stages where 1 meal will last him 2 days & others where he will eat his meal straight away!

We were thinking that about changing his food, but not for good. We was thinking that after every 2 bags of Royal Canin GS Adult, we will get him a bag of ???. For two reasons, 1. it gives him variety and a change! I know we wouldn't want the same meal everyday! & 2. It would save us a little bit of money (I am just being honest).

If you could give us some advise on 1. if this would upset his tummy & 2. what dog foods you recommend, it would be apreciated.

*If you feel the need to judge please do not comment on this post*

1) as long as the dog does not have any health issues such as SIBO or EPI it should not affect his stomach
2) there are many mid range foods that are decent the Skinners Field and Trial range, even pedigree complete adult as good range of protein, oil etc and comes in many flavours, Hopewells is another feed manufacturor based in Rotherham they do loads ranging from £6.99 to £28.99, it depends what price range you want.

If you are worried that he is bored with the food, you could try adding little taster in with it, bits of chicken or fish, even a little bit of tinned meat just to make it different for him. Our boy was on RC and he hated it, refused point blank to eat for a whole week once! Just because you pay top dollar, doesn't always mean its the best or the dogs will eat it. There are some really good mid price range foods too.

It's all about finding a food that your dog likes, I hope the RC suits him and you find another food to compliment that.

The reason he is on Royal Canin is:

1. He had a B12 defecinecy when he was a pup & RC is full of B12
&
2. He likes it & it is so highly rated.

For these reasons we will continue to give him 2 bags of RC then a change for him. I just wanted to see if others do this or whether you tend to stick with 1 food. And see if any are high recommended.

We do give him little treats in his dinner, when we cook meat, we keep a little back & boil it for him. He likes a little bit of cheese to!

Thanks!

TBH I stick with one food, Diesel is fed Orijen and this suits him. I had to go through a few foods to find a good one that worked for him and now I've found it I'm not about to change.

with my other dogs, I never stuck to any particular food, they got what ever...

But these two I've stuck to wagg which they both like and it's doing the trick.. Jones does get tinned which is what ever!

If any scraps are left from tea they get this added to their bowls which they do enjoy..

I would check out some of the manufacturers website, quite often they do a free sample (a small meal worth though) but give you a chance to have a look at it, and a taster before you spend money on a large sack of food..

I know James welbeloved does this..
