Taste Of The Wild

Hi,

Zak is exactly 8 weeks old today. We have had him for three weeks now. When we picked him up the breeder gave us some Royal Canine Maxi 32 so we have continued to feed him this up until yesterday.

My cousin recomended several good dog foods and taste of the wild seemed to be the best for price and yet was still a 6 star food so we had some delivered.

We have been feeding him 4 times a day, he always eats his dinner eventually. somtimes he leaves a little and comes back to it later. anyway we mixed in 1/4 new food to his norrmal royal canine and he seemed to really like it. The bowl was licked clean within a few minutes.

Every time we put his dinner out now its gone within a couple of minutes and the bowl looks like its just been washed lol. At dinner today I gave him a little more than 1/4 taste of the wild and when I was just doing his dinner now he was going crazy. He wouldnt stop jumping up against the kitchen door where his food was and he kept crying.

I think he really likes his new food lol, I am supprised there is such a difference in the way he is with his dinner, its like he is always starved. I know I am not under feeding him, infact I think if anything he is having too much food but his weight at 7 weeks was 15lbs and the vet said this was fine for week 7.

how many grams of food would you recomend is about right for an 8 week old pup? I understand different food bags say different amounts but is there anyone out there that has a rough idea of how much in grams is about average for such a young pup. I dont want to under feed him and also dont want him over fed. To me he feels ribby but this is my first GSD pup.

Thanks

Nash is an unknown quantity at this point
TOTW is a very good food and if the pup likes it plus does good on it then stick with it. Here is their feeding guideline

Taste of the Wild : Products : Dogs : Dry Food : High Prairie Canine Formula

I've heard mixed opinions about this food tbh, I personally wouldn't feed it.

I would go with the food guide and then just judge how hungry your woofer is but I would say that even though he is woofing it down now and looking for more it may be just because its new. Bonnie was like this too, I thought gosh she is starving but it turned out it was just because it was something different

Where has all this come from? Wasn't long ago you where recommending it was it? The Dog food analysis looks good for it.

I've only had one bag of it but had to order Orijen again this time as need it before xmas. Orijen is obviously a better food.

Hi Maxandskye

Looking through previous posts it seems you used to feed all your dogs taste of the wild.

Could you let me know why you decided to take them all off it? is it due to the food containing the compound copper sulphate?

Jenny will explain further but its linked to the food causing excess gas in the dog which could cause bloat i think and some other bits

Hi Beki,

Thanks for posting, we have decided to stop feeding this food once the bag runs out.

I am going to order either Orijen Puppy Large Dog Food, or the Orijen Adult 6 Fish with Sea Vegetable, haven't made up my mind which one yet though.
