How can we tell why she isnt eating?

Up til now Jazz has been a great eater (expensive taste... Royal Cannine..) but we lost our older dog last tuesday and from Friday onwards Jazz has not been eating as usual - leaving food untouched etc She was quieter than normal on Friday also. Her poo is normal and she seems fine otherwise.

Is she moping after other dog or is she telling us its time to go down to 2 meals a day? ( she is 5.5 months)

I'd think she would be stressed at the loss of your other doggie, esp with quieter mood. Change in pack order, unsure of things now. We don't really know the extent to which they grieve but they do grieve.

At 5 months I'd still be feeding 3 times a day. Maybe mix a tin of sardines in to her food to tempt her a bit? Play with her lots to keep her occupied.

I would say going through the grieving process - give her time

Bless her. She is missing him. Just a thought... has she finished teething? Mav wouldn't eat when he started teething.

Dex went through this at a similar age when he started to lose his back teeth, seemed very quiet and off his food. We mixed water in with his food to soften it up a little which seemed to help.

Thanks all. Yes she is teething but has been for a while (ears have been back down for last week or so) but she is pushing boundaries a lot, running upstairs, being too mouthy again etc Noticed she had had runs last night and this morning so not sure whats going on with her..... Although she is happy enough to steal frozen chicken and block of butter off the worktop!!!(didnt manage to eat either...) Clearly nothing wrong with nose or back legs

Sounds like it could be a combination of the two - possibly being too mouthy because she's teething and has lost her play pal. Gentle tug games might help and give her some ice cubes (lots of fun to play with and nice on ouchy gums). Softening the food with water helped Maverick, make it a bit mushy if needs be. If she's upset and not eating properly then this explains the squits.
