How much is your shopping ?

Hi all
I am contemplating switching to raw once Sheba has finished her next bag of food. I understand the benefits etc & not too bothered about dealing with raw meat but would like some more info re costs. When searching for info the only comparisons I have found is that the raw diet is about the same cost as commercial. However, as we all know there is a great difference in costs of commercial food (& shopping in supermarkets) Would anybody be able to give me some ideas in £'s so that I can see if it is a viable option
Thanks

Caryll is a jewel in the rough
I buy the left over lamb bones from Morrissons for about £1 for a pack of 3 or 4 necks/spines/ribs, & Dempsey has 1 a day. Then there's the evening meal, normally heart or tripe. I buy the large frozen bags of chunks at about £1 per kilo for the heart & about £0.50 a kilo for tripe. He gets about half a kilo a day. Once or twice a week he gets kidneys. I'd say from that, that the average cost per week is £7, plus every so often I buy a fresh Ox heart, cut it in two & let him tear it up himself.

That is about what I have paid for her commercial food so a great comparison, Thanks. Also we shop at Morrisons so a chat to the butcher is in order. Sheba is only 10kg so I would imagine her needing about 300g per day ??

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but if I remember correctly you should feed a puppy 2-3% of its expected ADULT weight. When it's an adult the proportion is 2-3% of IDEAL weight.

Shebas Dad weighed over 40kg & Mum around 30kg So if I take Shebas anticipated weight as 30kg she should have about a kg per day then

I would say between 700 and 900g- remember you don't want your puppy to grow too fast- with raw if you see she's putting on too much weight just cut down the quantities.

BTW I haven't answered your original question as I'm not in the UK so can't advise!

Ozzie is raw fed, I have to rely on the minced stuff a lot, as I struggle to get lots of bones and things for him. But on average, he has 454g for breakfast and the same for tea. I get ox heart from the butcher fairly cheap, bones when I can scrounge a few. I feed the 4 jrts raw too, but they eat very little (about a pound a day between them). For all five dogs, I worked it out to about £9.75 average a week.

My two cost around £10 per week to feed raw. Remus is on just over a kg of raw a day, Zee just under. I feed by eye but it does work out at 3% body weight for mine

I've a very good local butcher who does me 1 lb bags of mixed offal and meat for 30p each, plus I buy chicken carcasses, wings, lamb necks, whole rabbits and bones are free. And I've a tripe supplier who'll leave me a bag of 12 whole tripes for £2.50.
