Tegan stops eating............

her dry food !

Over the last few days Tegan (14 wks) has slowly but surely stopped eating her dry food.

Since we got her at 7 and bit weeks she has been on Purina Pro Plan - Puppy Large Breed Athletic. Initially it was soaked in water to make it easier to eat then she wouldn't eat it like that. Then ate it no problem dry until a few days ago.

So today after starting to get worried I decided to try a different tact and added half of a small cup of gravy to it and to say she wolfed it down would be an understatement.

Is this normal ? Mind you I can't blame her as I would sharp get sick of eating boring dry food also.

hi there, my pup did this on the food his breeder gave us. think he jus got bored with it really. i wanted to feed him barf but was a bit worried bout the bones bit, so now he has barf food but its minced with the bones in so i dont have to worry. he has a variety of flavours and fruit and veg and meaty chunks and does really well, hes never turned his nose up at it like he did with dried biscuits, if you want any info let me know i can link u the web sites i buy from, and its much cheaper!! he does sometimes have harringtons biscuits too, which are the only ones he will eat, and theyre all natural. i wouldnt really give them our gravy to be honest it has way too much salt in and isnt very good for them. hope this helps.

I had the same problem with Bonnie, she ate her dry with water to soften and gradually stopped wanting it so I stopped with the water, she ate it dry for a while then stopped eating again THATS WHEN IT ALL STARTED!!!!!

I would add things to her food to try and entice her to eat as I felt... awww she is a pup she needs to eat BOY WAS I WRONG!

Dont make the mistake that a lot of us have... dont start putting things in the food. Unless there is a medical reason i.e making dog sick or alergic reaction then there is no reason to change the food or add BITS. I went through MONTHS of adding and changing foods... I even tried raw but I got the same result everytime..... she would eat for a while and then 'got bored' and wanted something different!!! It was torture for me trying to get her to eat and a lot of food went to waste too

I finally had enough and decided 'you will eat what I saw when I say it' I started putting her food down for her morning feed, just dry nothing in it and leaving it for 30mins... if she didnt eat I took it away and covered it. Then at the evening meal time I put it back down... no eat after 30mins... took it away! this went on for 4-5 days and she didnt eat ANYTHING not even a treat (none offered thats why) she soon realised thats all she was getting and thats when she was getting it..... Now she eats her dinner when I put it down everytime

Had the same problem with Zak, We mix in 2 tins of tuna a day with his dry food and he wuvs it. Don't think I will ever change it now either (in Brine).

Women at the checkout the other week gave me a funny look when I had a basket with 50 tins in it, then I explained it was for the dog she laughed.

Ah the things we do......

Be careful, that is an awful lot of salt (brine) to be adding to his diet.

I would go for the dry ones, or in oil or tomato sauce.

Whole heartedly agree,..at least drain the brine out, or buy whole fish [ out of tines ]

Silly question but would you still drain all the oil out of a tin of the tuna or just leave a small amount.

And is the oil type important olive or sunflower ?

I would personaly drain it, there will be enough oil in the fish itself,..which in turn will eliminate the need for any olive or sunflower oil

Ah thanks for the advice both, will filter out the brine and once these tins run out maybe look at alternatives.

I would be careful you aren't creating a fussy eater, the more you add things into their meals they more picky they will become when those things aren't in their bowl.
