really depends on what age your dog is as you should be able to feel but not see their ribs, but we all have different ideas as to what our shepherd should look like.
i personally feed my two raw food my boy is happy with it but i have to keep a look out for my girl as she does tend to pile on the pounds just by looking at a piece of raw meat .

What food do you feed your dog at the moment?
I feed my GSD raw and my other dog Orijen dry food.
By the way, i think it's good to keep your dog on the lean side.

I can feel Kaiser's ribs but not see them and he is lean.
Both my Boys are Raw fed.
The Kibble I would recommened would be Orijen.

Our 2 are are 11 months and 12 months old. The male is starting to fill out more than the female, she is very lean also, but they are still growing. We feed our dogs Aurtaki dry food and sometimes add in a little pasta as a treat. Again, the same as been said to us, "as long as you can feel them and not see them".

dont feed too much tripe and feed sheep meat in place of lamb, if the diet is balanced then the dog shouldnt gain weight

Thanks Pam.
I've been told that beef (minced) is hard for them to digest - is that true??
