Sorry, another what to feed? :(
Sam is 3yr old, 30kg, lean, can't see but can feel ribs.
He gets a short walk in am, an hour in afternoon and then a minimum 1 hour in pm.
He's currently on Waggs (I didn't want to upset him due to the move transition as well) but having looked into this, it would appear that it is nota healothy food option?
I've looked into Royal Canin but over winter, we can end up with companies refusing to deliver up here so I think my best option would be something I can get from one of the foodstores? I.E A&I Agri store. What else would be suitable that is reasonably easy to locate but not too expensive?
Also, I'm debating with OH. Is there any best way to feed/walk? In the morning he is walked and then fed when he comes back. To my mind, he'd be better fed and then walked - food = energy. Again, perhaps this is because this is the way I do it with the horses??? He's fed twice a day, am and early evening.
Anything I'm missing???

We feed ours (12 month olds) Aurtaki from the local pet and farm place. They seem to be ok on it. It is quite cheap for a big bag and seems to have all the right ingrediants. Never had a problem. We are the same, we feed am around 7.30 and then again around 5.30 pm. They have lots of exercise.

We fed ours on aurtarky and it is cheap as chips as they say - we paid £12.75 for a big sack and his coat was amazing on it, the shine was brilliant. The only thing we found is that our boy lost weight on it but he is very hard to keep weight on anyway,. If I had a dog who didnt have trouble keeping weight on I would definately try this one again

Please don't feed and then walk - you risk bloat & gastric tortion, which can be deadly! If you feed after a walk always leave at least an hour afterwards before you feed. If you have to feed first, then leave it for at least 2 hours before a walk, and then nothing too strenuous for another hour!

And what makes you think wagg isn't an healthy option?
A couple of questions you need to ask yourself..
1, Does he enjoy it (always the most important question)
2, Does he have any itching or dry skin
3, Does he get upset stomach's
4, Is his poo sloppy and lose?
5, Is his coat nice and shinny?
6, Does he look the picture of health?
If you can answer yes to question 1,5,6 and no to 2,3,4 then his currant diet is a good one, if you not then yes you do need to look into changing his diet to a more suitable one...
I feed wagg to my two never had a problem with it, they enjoy it and they are a picture of health with amazing conditioned coats, alongside of their wagg they have a dollop of tinned meat (normally tesco preiume but any brand can be used) or if any suitable table scraps are available they have this instead...
If for some reason he's not happy with what you feeding him at the moment look at the next price braket up see if there's anything there... Keep going until you find the one that suits best..
Not just assume that because several people tell you that this one is the best so you do a very big expense leap... As for your dog this may not be so

Ahhh, thanks. See, this is why I need help. We've always fed first thing in am and walked. We'll leave him as is - with his am walk and then feed once he's had a rest It's been 4-5 years since I've really looked after dogs (other than training here and there).
The rule with the horses is to feed little and often - so there stomachs are never more than 3/4 full and the reason for not exercising straight away is because of the pressure the rider puts on the diaphraghm (SP?)

Hi, sorry didn't mean to offend He seems more than happy on it. I wouldn't want him to drop any weight but he seems perfect. I wouldn't say his coat is shiny but nor would
I've been doing a lot of research on-line as when it comes to dog food (as you can see) I'm really useless and want to make sure I'm not scrimping on him and want to give him what he needs. I've no-one to be able to talk to regarding what to feed and have had to go from from I've learned, until I'm able to get him to vet for a basic health check. What I put here, is simply what I've been reading on-line etc, that the ingredients etc within the Wagg feed is not balanced and is full of crap etc. Apologies if this is wrong
In answer to your questions:
1, Does he enjoy it (always the most important question)
Yes
2, Does he have any itching or dry skin
No
3, Does he get upset stomach's
No
4, Is his poo sloppy and lose?
Yes
5, Is his coat nice and shinny?
Hmmm - I wouldn't say it's shiny but it isn't staring/dull either. He is very fluffy which may reduce how shiny it looks????
6, Does he look the picture of health?
Yes
