Truth about Bakers

The truth about Bakers dog food
Many Many dog owners still feed this food, it's quite surprising at how many still do. Below is some info that is widely available on the web, please have a read and make your own judgement. The law has recently changed and animal foodstuff manufactu...rers can no longer list 'permitted colours/additives' on products sold in quantities greater than 10 kilos. I tell anybody that will listen about the additives in food like Bakers. If a dog comes to stay here with skin problems, hyperactivity, snotty eyes, gunky ears, you can almost guarantee that they are being fed additives. I do my best to persuade change, but I'm pretty sure I'm the "mad dog food lady" round here Well, Bakers and the like can no longer say "permitted X Y Z", they now have to TELL us the crap they put in their food and, at last, I can now show it to the people who doubted it. At the end of the day, dogs don't give two hoots if their food is bone shaped, heart shaped or brightly coloured; this is done as a marketing ploy for the buyers. As a responsible pet owner and rescue worker, I am not happy to feed dogs in my care THIRTEEN E numbers: See More

Was there a link there? I can't get one.

But I wholeheartedly agree with you - it's a rubbish food to feed. Why on earth do dogs want multi coloured food? Once their heads are in their bowls they don't see anything anyway!

Agreed...and I don't think you're the "mad dog food lady" Linda. You are providing members here with a valuable opinion on dog foods that they may not be aware could be causing problems with their dogs...Thank You!

The only link I could find is this one THE TRUTH ABOUT BAKERS DOG FOOD!! *13 E NUMBERS | Facebook

But I whole heartly agree..

Bakers is coloured and designed for the Human Eye...

Dogs don't use sight to eat well only for the purpose of catching the food first

Working in kennels it was noticeable that dogs feed on Bakers or similar dried products did tend to be hyperactive in the mian, smaller protion of them would also suffer itchy skin or flakey skin etc.

And even though I a person who believes you don't have to pay high prices to obtain a good food for your dog, I would never recommend Bakers to anybody..

Would you eat or feed a ton of colourant and additives to your kids!

ArchandEbs will become famous soon enough
I was talking to someone today and I was the fourth person she knew of whose dog had died of cancer. She thinks it's due to the additives in commercial pet foods. It's less regulated her in Australia - even in human food there are additives and e numbers banned in the UK.

It really does make me wonder.............

It's a nasty food, any food that's brightly coloured just can't be right can it?

Rubbish makes rubbish and Bakers is just that. Zee was on it when I got her Now's she's still hyperactive on raw.. so I don't want to contemplate what she'd be like on Bakers!

By hyperactive I mean high energy level. After a long walk off-lead 2-3 hrs, she'll come back and want to play ball. OH says she's not sleeping, just re-charging!
