Not sure what to do

Hiya,

I am thinking of moving Zak over to some kind of Tinned food. Do any of you feed your dogs this? can anyone recommend any?

Any idea how much tinned food a growing pup should have?
he weighs 38KG at the moment and is 7 months old.

The reason I ask is he has always been on dry food since we had him at 6 weeks old but it has always had to be mixed in with either Tuna or Pedigree or something similar from the local shop. I know these kind of tinned foods do not give him what he needs but figured he was getting what he needed from the dry.

I have tried him on several decent dry foods including Royal Canin Maxi Junior 32, Orijen red, Taste of the wild, pro plan, burns.

When the dry is mixed with wet he seems to lick it up and just swallow it rather than chew it but when he has dry on its own he has to chew and seems to struggle.

Anyway lately he does not want to eat dry at all and eats around it. The last 2 days hes hardly eaten anything and has puked up a load of bile in the garden bless him.

I gave in because felt sorry for the fella and put 1.5 tins of dog food in his bowl this morning and he licked it clean and looked at me for more.

So now I am thinking about moving over to tinned, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance xxxxx

Have you tried soaking the dry food, this tempted Diesel to eat his dry before I changed to Orijen 6 Fish.

I've never fed tinned food so I really wouldn't know what to recommend sorry.

Have you tried soaking the kibble in some water for a little while before feeding, as Lynn has suggested, when you say he struggles to chew, are his teeth ok ? let us know how you get on xxx

Hi,

as a 6 week old pup he had dry soaked but went off it, we tried it again this week with no luck.

His teeth are absolutely fine, he has no problem eating my kitchen cabinet doors or kitchen walls hehe.

Im with the others here, try soaking the food before feeding, use warm water not boiling as this will destroy all the vitamins in the food.

what about keeping with the kibble, but adding little bits, fish, different meats etc ? Dalton was terrible eating wise as a pup, he would turn his nose up at everything, he used to worry me sick, but looking back he was getting the amount of food he needed, he just didnt want much food, like humans some eat more than others etc xxx

Trouble with tinned food is it is usually filled with junk. Someone said to me once that kibble was like a sunday roast and tinned was a big mac, you offer the two to a kid, what are they going to choose?

Ozzie went of kibble completely when he was about 5-6 months. I tried the whole leave it for 20 mins, what he didn't eat take away trick, he had in the past caved in and eaten, but this time he went a week with about 500g of food the entire time. I caved and put him on raw. He is now a big strapping boy, he is still picky at times, but he rarely misses more than one meal!!
