Raw bones

Kenzi adores her raw bones, she has knuckle and marrow and beef shin. They do not disagree with her, in fact her poo is always better after the bone. We have noticed that on the night of having a bone she will be quite restless and wake up and pace around panting before settling after a while. Is this something we should be concerned about?

Heather has a spectacular aura about
I feed my dogs raw and their bones are always covered in meat- eg chicken thighs. The other day I gave them each a big bone the butcher had given me- don't know what type Kira's was - it was very flat and big with no meat on it. She finished it really quickly and a few times that day when she got up after lying down she would yelp sharply as in pain. Then that night she was in pain when she tried to get up on the sofa or bed. She was restless all night so the next day i took her to the vet. He said there was probably a slight blockage due to the bone but eventually she'd digest it. However I was very frightened for her- i was sure she had a sharp bit of bone stuck inside her.
I've decided that my dogs are never getting big bones- only raw meaty ones that I know they have no problems with.

I think as far as Kenzi is concerned,..Make sure she has a lot of water available,.. one thing that is hardly ever mentioned when talking about feeding raw,..is that they get more of a thirst on them,..probably because raw meat/blood etc is more salty

My dogs water is outside, and I always know when they need a drink,.. because of the very symtomes you discribed

Heather,... I have always adviced people not to give large bones, but its usualy the teeth that are in danger.

Bone blockage is unlikely to contain sharp bones,.. [ it may of course, but unusal ],..it is more likely to be a large quantity of chewed bone,...and will clear, you have already solve this by only feeding meaty bones in the future

Mine only get raw meaty bones too never large/heavy weight bearing bones
They do have air dried deer hoofs, stag bars and pizzles that are not covered in meat
