Royal Canin mix?

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, my almost 8 month old Rio is fed on Royal Canin Maxi Junior biscuits and James Wellbeloved pouches. When i was ordering her more food I saw that Royal Canin make a biscuit especially for GSD juniors as apose to the big breed Maxi Junior that she's on, so i have got some of that to try.

My question is, should I let her finish all the Maxi Junior first or can I give her the GSD let's say, for dinner and the Maxi Junior for breakfast?

I know that they have sensitive tummies and that they say you should gradually change food but is that just with different brands? I'm only asking because both are Royal Canin.

Thanks,

Sarah xx

Tedsmum will become famous soon enough
Yes it may be the same brand but it might be enough to upset her if you change over too quickly or mix them.
It depends on how sensitive her stomach is.
I know that even changing as you have described would give my boy trouble so I would be on the safe side and introduce very gradually as always. x

We had both maxi junior and the GSD stuff (for some reason mom decided to bulk buy both even though they both do the same thing except the GSD one is better for GSD's! Doh.)

Once the maxi stuff finished we just switched them over. However we were mixing it with raw meat to begin with so it wasn't like a total switch over it was more like a half total switch over.

No ill effects though.

The only difference in the two products I think is the GSD stuff seems a bit more oily and higher quality.

I was talking to the guy that manufactures my dog food a while ago about what food to use if I couldnt get his. I swear by it, mine in great health for their age 13 and almost 12. He recommended Royal Canin but told me not to bother with any of the special mixes as there is little difference in them.

Why do you soak the Arden grange? Does it say you should on the packet? Ive got Olli on eukanuba large breed puppy food and don't soak his food prior to giving it ... I'd best go read the pack again!

I'd guess the different quantity is because of the different nutritional values too

There is no need to soak most dry foods part of the idea is that the dry food hardness helps to keep their teeth clean. Some dogs will not eat it though so that may be a reason to soak.

Cant help with the quantities I am afraid I free feed mine.

only reason for soaking is some folk suggest it may lesson the chances of bloat in big, deep chested dogs such as mine, and to be honest i would rather cleen teeth and do all i can to prevent this !

I know the other half of the devide will say there is know need and its all speculation but cant to any harm in my view, along with all the other tips and things to avoid as well.!!
