Raw feeding Lexi
Hi Guys
I am just changing Lexi onto RAW and was just wondering how much I should be feeding Lexi she weights 28KG and loves raw food, I know its better to go off how she looks but just a rough guide onto how much
Thanks
Liz

Thanks pam, at the moment we've just been to the supermarket for it whilst i was looking for a good supplier online. We were just a bit green on knowing 'how much' and although most peoples answer seems to be go off how she looks rather than getting into a habit of weighing food, it does make sense but just looking for a rough starting point and see how she goes on it.
P.S If you fancy taking the dogs for a walk sometime when you're not busy send a message and we'll meet you we could let them off now shes bigger.

Hi liz, stuart may be your best advisor on this he helped me get started on the raw feeding. As a guide for you i have a male weighing 50kg he has 500g a meal and skye is 25kg and gets the same, they have two meals a day.
Try everywhere for your meat as you will probably find the chicken carcasses and scraps from the butcher a bit cheaper.

Will do Liz
I would start of with the 2 packs as you want her to gain some weight and she is still growing so will need slightly more than an adult, get a mix to see what she likes - the trouble with the home delivery services is that they deliver during the day in the week if you do use one of these dont buy Landywoods

i have found a cracking supplier in one of my local(ish) butchers.
You need an old school butcher though as most stuff comes ready cut and pre packed these days which makes it hard for them to have scraps!
Can't seem to get chicken carcasses anywhere though.......
(also, apparenly if you DO produce scraps then you're a bad butcher!)
Once you find a supplier then go with it... they are worth their weight in GOLD it took me a very expensive few months to figure that out!!
Rogue is about 29lbs and she gets just over 1lb of meat per day plus any amount of treats and bones... she is doing pretty well on that!!
We've been raw feeding her for about 5 months now and she has taken to it really well!

maybe that's correct for human consumption, i told my butcher it's for the dogs so perhaps they will save the carcasses if they have their own abbatoir (excuse spelling)
I spoke to farmers and local meat suppliers, we get horse tongues, ground chicken with the bone crushed in, beef blocks (15kg), rabbits from the farmer who goes shooting. if you know a local restaurant or pub see if they will save you any bones or raw scraps they prepare off the food before they serve it.
As an example when i'm preparing food in the pub i save the tips of the chicken wings, the fish skin's, any sinus from meat, and the butcher will brings meaty bones for free! Worth an ask, i guess the worse they can say is no. You'd be amazed what a kitchen would throw away if they couldn't find a use for it or they couldn't be bothered to have stock control

I always recommend this site for people who are starting out on a raw diet,... if you look at the links on this site, there is one there that gives you a scale of the amount of meat to give to a certain weight of dog,.. this should help you
>>>>>>> German Shepherd Rescue Scotland Online Store - German Shepherd Embroidery, German Shepherd Bagdes, German Shepherd Mouse Mats, German Shepherd Mugs
Having said that, I have never, ever weighed out meat for my dogs,...you will be suprised at how little they will need in weight per meal,.. in commercail food, much of what you see is simply filler that goes right through the dog,... but raw food is all goodness so you dont need so much of it, if you were to give the same amount of raw that you do kibble, you would soon have a very fat dog, [ depending on excersise ]
What I would suggest, would be to feed as much raw meat as you can possibly get in one hand, [ bear in mind that I feed Venison which is a rich food ]... or half a chicken, or a ham hock,..this kind of amount, and watch your dog, as time goes on, if you think that you need to increase or decrease you can do.
The reason I have said this is because although scales are good as a guide, all dogs are different

I cant find a butcher to supply dog food anywhere, all the ones I have tried tell me that they need different minching machines, one for human food, and one for dog food,... and none want to pay out the money for both,.... its a good job I know lots of game keepers

The only thing i get from the butcher is the chicken carcass, offal and the bones, the ground chicken comes from a friend that runs a wild boar estate and he knows a man that knows a man etc....and he feeds his dogs on it so i think that was more luck than anything.
Where-as game suppliers ......well their like a needle in a haystack round here
