chicken carcasses. bone question..
Sams new diet going well. kibble in the morning and raw at night.. having trouble finding anywhere that does green tripe but i have found a butcher that has chicken carcasses. have to get there early on thursdays as its first come first serve.. how many carcasses would give him the right amount of bone per week. dont want to overdo it..

I usually feed ground chicken as much as i can as chicken forms the majority of the diet and this stuff has the bone ground into it so for us it's a daily feed of bone, if you get 4 carcasses i would feed half a one daily for your Sam.
When i don't feed the ground chicken, they would get fish/beef/offal and a bone from the butcher throughout the day. This is how i have been doing it and i keep watch off the other end too for the colour of the faeces lets me know if i'm feeding too much of one thing.
xx

thanks for that. at the moment for evening meal sam is having about 1/2 pack of mince (approx 400 grams) a chicken quarter with the bone or slab of pork shoulder and small chunk of liver .. so ill give him the mince or pork as usual and just add half a chicken carcass 4 times a week ..

Ah they love their beef mince don't they
Yeh sounds to me you've got it all under control, Stuart is very good on this subject and i'm sure he will explain further if needed.
Just a quick pointer, i would feed pork sparingly. Don't think it's very good for them, once or twice a fortnight i feed pork and that's only if i have forgotten to pull their meal out the freezer
i got a shed load of boar burgers off a bloke who supplies me with the food, and i used them for the treats at training class instead. I cooked the meat into small bite sized treats and much rather use it this way. Again just what i did....... xx

My two have chicken carcass every day. If they're small, Harley gets two and Jess gets one, and if they're bigger, they each get one.
They then share a mince block (1lb block) between them and tripe, so the chicken carcasses (where I get them from they have a good whack of meat still on them) form the main part of their diet

Can I suggest if possible, that you change around the way you feed, and give raw in the morning and kibble at night.
The reason is that there is a vast difference in digestion times between the two foods,.. raw is digested in around 4-5 hours, but kibble takes something like 10 hours,... so if you are feeding kibble in the morning, it is still digesting in the gut when the raw is being fed,... and some dogs can sometimes have a bad stomach because of this.
Far better to feed the raw in the morning and kibble at night, so the kibble is well digested before the raw feed

Loba and Kira get chicken carcasses every day for breakfast- Kira gets a couple of big ones and Loba only one as although she's bigger than Kira she does a lot less exercise.

13 hrs between evening and morning meal. 8 or 9 between morning and evening feed. good point.. consider it done..
