Going back to raw!!!!!! (need a bit of advice though :P)
Hey guys, long time follower but my first post!
Ive got a beaut of a gsd if do say so myself - Kane is 7 months. At 6 months he weighed 33kg, i think hes around 35-36 now. hes a big boy and very lanky so hes not fat.
I tried raw when i bought him but he was such a fussy sod but he isnt too bad now and already eats 2 chicken wings a day. Its the best bloody thing for a dog and since hes been on CSJ his coat is awful and his poop is hugee so its basically its full of rubbish.
I can order from landywoods, berriewoods, DAF and get bits and bats from the supermarket
The questions I have is, do i need to give his food thawed at room temp or can i just give him frozen stuff? (his wings are straight from freezer no thawing)
I was thinking to give 1lb meat packs, so 1lb twice a day.
i.e - morning would be 1lb meat (tripe, beef, chicken etc) + 1 wing + pulsed veggies.
- evening would be same but maybe add a tin of mackrel instead of a wing?
However ive read people basing their diet on carcasses and wings so really lost. If i gave the morning meal as above but then evening meal as a carcasses and half 1lb pack?
I just bought some leg quarters today so say one + 1lb tripe would be too much wouldnt it for 1 meal??
the quantities is something im a bit confused with but my intended menu would be: 1lb meat packs, chicken wings and leg quarters, sardines, tuna, mackrel, fish oil, pulsed veggies, the odd egg(with shell) a week
Am i on the right lines guys???
Taa!

Everything sounds fine to me, you will probably change things around some, as and when things become available,.. just make sure you give lots of variety
I usually take out the next days meal the night before, so it has had plenty of time to edfrost at room temp,.. but there has been times that I have forgot, and I have given it frozen,.. I doubt there is any problem with this, as the food refrosts as they chew it anyway,... a wild dog or wolf would eat frozen meat.
It is entirely up to you weither you give the veg or not, but there is little or no goodness in veg for a dog, and 99.9% will just go straight through,... dogs only eat their greens when they want to be sick
Look forward to seeing more of Kane,.. nice dog

We where told that veg is great for dogs as well as herbs seeds and some nuts but u need to 'blitz' them a bit first or they will just go stright through we also give daily min and vit tablets as did u know that the mins and vits in veg these days can be up to 60% lower than that of 50 years ago all because of use of fertilisers.

i would like to know which are best to use - ive used salmon, olive, veg and cod liver in the past randomly.
ive got a friend with a dogue de bourdoux and he uses bone and marrow meal powder, are things like these any good? atm i guess a gsd pup would not require such things especially to prevent HD..
just to add i chuck in a glucosamine and chonditron tablet in one of his meals per day - again would like your opinions if this is worthwhile
