going raw
ok looked into it,found a good local supplier if not a tad expensive.my local butcher.but was looking into getting the frozen blocks of food also.lots of suppliers do them, which ones are best though.ive seen on here that people dont really like landywoods.is there a reason for this or is it just personal preference.
also whats the best way to wean a dog onto raw, slowly.gave bruja a pigs trotter the other day and the after effects were not at all nice.

i know it really wasnt nice, not a pick up more a hose down.i only give her small amounts to get used to it but i think bruja will just not be a raw eater at this rate.i give her the raw in the morning and dry in afternoon, its definatly not the dry having this effect so it must be the raw.if i cook it then theres no problems.

You can change over quiet quckly, but a pigs trotter,..[ if thats the same as a Ham Hock,..we talk different in Scotland.. ]...is quiet a big meal, so I am guessing that it wasnt the sudden change, but the amount at one time.
I suggest that you change over right away, because its not always good to have the two types of food in the gut,.. but make the raw meals smaller for a while
Raw will have this effect for a short time until the gut gets used to it, its a richer, better food

just to explain the pigs trotter is the bottom of the pigs leg where i come from(minsterley, shrewsbury).it was only small say 5 inches long.shes ok on offal(liver, kidneys, heart)which are rich ,so i dont know.i did try her on a rabbit leg which had the same effect.going to get some blocks of frozen to try her on in the week.i thought that you shouldnt start a dog of on chicken.will get her a mixture of frozen to try.(tripe, chicken and beef).and do that for breakfast and dry in the evening.although i can see her turning her nose up at the dry once shes had the other.

We feed our three raw, we get our meat from a local butchers who sell tubes of minced offal and offcuts for about 50p each, we also buy big bags of chicken wings and drumsticks, and they give us a big bag of offcuts and carcasses every week too.
It's worth ringing round local butchers or farm shops to find one who deals with carcasses, a lot of butchers buy from markets so have less waste, but if they deal with carcasses they'll have a lot more.
I've heard from a few people who switched to raw that it gives them the runs intially, but don't worry, it'll harden up before long!
As said, try some chicken wings first, they seem to be a bit easier, certainly for the transition.

ok then bruja is 32kg and 14 months old,but i still think she looks scrawny.so i was going to put her on a diet of raw brekkie (450g ish) then half her daily ration of dry (about 200g).does that sound too much.i know she has a bit of filling out to do as shes only young.but she doesnt seem to be gaining as she should, her back end still looks awkward and gangly.
