Stuart....have you ever got hold of the antlers to try as home made stag-bars? or am I way off with that idea....wasn't sure if they are completely natural or treated in some way.

I didn't know about stag bars but did a search on the internet and I now know what they are.

I could get the antlers, if I wanted, but usualy ask for them to be removed, it makes carrying and loading into the car easier, but sometimes if for some reason a youngster has had to be culled and he has stubby antlers, they have been left on,.[the last time was a young buck that was damaging trees in a forrestry block]

In this case I cut them off and divide them up between the dogs,..although they always prefer the feet

Love the photo of you butchering the deer !
We were given a whole stag in the autumn, wish we could get more but they go to the game dealer. We can get as many antlers as we want but the dogs aren't that interested in them unless they've got velvet on them and they can crunch through them.
