I dont know, all I know is my boy did it as learned behaviour from his mum. It took a week of him being on an extended lead when we knew he was due to do the business, with a firm "NO" everytime he tried to grab his business Then loads of squeals and praise from me when he left it.

This method worked for us because we have alot of trees and bushes in our garden that he learned to hide in to do his poops, hence I could not get to him quick enough before he wolfed it down His breeder named him Explorer, because he often wandered off from his mum and litter mates into bushes etc, probably having a good nosh the dirty devil !

He does not do this anymore thankfully, but given half the chance he will eat our chickens or rabbits poo

LOL...they have such delightful habits! Nice that you managed to stop it now though , people must have thought you were mad getting all excited over your dog not eating his poo - the things we do for our dogs!

My Kim used to do it but only at home so the pen clearing thing may hold some water. Whenever we were out and about she wouldn't look at it twice but at home she 'loved' scoffing a nice warm dump. Disgusting animal. Oh yeah, then she wanted kisses too and did the burping in face thing too. Monster.

Viva used to eat her poo. I tried to pick it up before she got to it and tried telling her to leave it but she would eat it as soon as, or would grab it before me then she'd run around the garden with it in her mouth lol. The warmer the better i think she thought. Yuk! She then used to come in and burp in our faces.
After putting a post up on another site someone recommended pineapple chucks so got some, i put about 4-5 chucks in each meal now and its worked. She hasnt even any since i started with the pineapple
