Thanks for that info. fizz that was helpful.
Mav - thanks also, but to be fair, he wasn't trying to sell me his food, I have been going to him for years and he is a very good vet who genuinely just gave me his opinion for what it was worth. Obviously I would be careful with the raw food especially living in Spain where it is v. hot should I choose to give them anything like that.

Raw feeding is far superior to feeding "complete" it is the naturel way to feed and your dogs' system is designed to cope with raw.
Bear in mind most vets are trained by vet schools funded by pharmaceutical firms, and food firms subsidise any sales of their food in the vets surgery, not many vets are qualified nutritionalists.
Bones (raw) are very good not only as a tooth cleaner but keeping the teeth in good order and firmly set into the jaw bone.
Temperament is also improved by changing to feeding raw, they are more satisfied and consequently not over-hyped
I have been feeding completely raw now for over 10 years my dogs are happier yes happier, 50% less by way of stools, vet bills cut by 2/3rds,better coat condition,no skin probs.better fertility, etc. etc.
Hope this will make you think about changing over to raw feeding soon and witness the change for the better in your dog

an example of a raw diet
http://leerburg.com/diet2.htm

This may help aswell
http://www.barfworld.com/html/barf_d...specific.shtml

As Alfe as allergies I have to be careful and the only protien sources he has are whole raw eggs and venison, I also give apples and other fruit, be careful what you feed though, no raisins or grapes, if feeding pork freeze first, research as much as you can, Ian Billinghurst books are good.

My dog is raw fed, with similar results to Julie. He's in great health with clean teeth and he smells nice. I've never bathed him.

His diet is based on this lady's suggestions: http://www.rawdogranch.com/ It's excellent for beginners.

http://www.rawfed.com has more detailed info. Check out the 'myths' page.
