Question raw prices and qs?

i have started changing coco over to raw as some of you may have read she is a fussy eater doesnt like kibble believe me ive tried loads ,sent of for loads of samples of the net left it there for 2-3 days no joy.

i knew she was hungry as we walk 2-3 hours a day ,tried it wet, with gravy with fish with wet food no joy .

anyway tryed her with raw chicken wing she devoured it ::got her some liver she loved it ,so i thought right im gonna change i was so worried about her .felt like i had an anorexic child

bought a second hand mini chest freezer just for her stuff.

i have been to the abatoir today spoke to the owner about raw and he has 9 dogs fed on raw anyway i did a deal for 20pd of minced tripe £7 sounded a fair deal to me .chicken carcasses 5 for a £1 ,ox cheek mince 50p a pound ,minced chicken thighs 60p a pd ,big box bones 80p, liver 50p a pd,
heart 50p a pd ,got some trotters 40p each too .

i just wondered if these prices were ok?

i worked out her tea cost me about 80p but she cleared her bowl in about 2 mins i was over the moon as this never happened with the kibble and tinned.

i got her some white fish from tesco do i cook the fish or feed this raw also?

i asked in tesco about salmon fish heads but they cant sell em to me they throw them away and wont let me have em ,isnt that stupid!?

Never cook the fish as the bones will become hard and may lodge in her throat
Always freeze and defrost before feeding

You could always try checking out the back of Tesco after dark - see if the bins are accessible

Take coco for a late walk - just watch out for any cats though or he may get more than salmon heads for dinner!

A good butcher / supplier is a your best friend. Our butcher doesn't slaughter on the premises anymore - EEC regulations crap ... so we can't get some things like green tripe.

But we generally buy 5 lb of chickie wing tips, 2 lb of carcasses per week and bones are free. He also does a 'raw dog mix' which is heart liver lung tongue tripe and meat off-cuts all minced up together - a raw dog burger! That's £1.50 for 5 lb.

This is supplemented by a couple of whole chickens bought from the supermarket. Overall it doesn't work out expensive and it's great to see your dog enjoying its food.

The cost of what you are buying sounds very good to me, and you are lucky to have found such a good source,..It is no good me compairing my costs to yours though, because I get full carcuses of Venison off the hills at a very reasonable rate,.. but I get other things like chicken, turkey etc from the suppermarkets, and I cant get it as cheap as you get your Chickens,.. Salmon heads and tails I get free from the smoke house,.............but it all sounds very good for you.

I am pleased that your dog is now enjoying his food,.. but keep reading up on the subject,..and always endever to give as balanced a diet as you can.

Anni,........You are very lucky,.. we tried to find out about this when we first started RAW, but were told that Butchers cant supply like they used to because the law says that they must have seperate items,.. [i.e. mincers, tables etc] for human and animal foods even though it comes off the same animal,..and of course most butchers cant, or wont go to that cost.

I don't know much about feeding raw but those prices sound great. I'd be happy to have my dog satisfied with his dinner that cost 80p
