Raw treats

Sorry to be annoying - Just a quick question which I know i'd prob find the answer in this forum but i'm just being lazy!

I was going to pick up a bag of cheap frozen chicken wings/legs at Tesco for Zeph, do I just let em fully defrost and give him the whole thing raw? Pretty sure thats what I do but wanted to check lol!

I feed him kibble but like to give him a healthy treat now and then! I've given him liver before which i cooked up and used as treats for training but that was a first and last as I can't stand the smell! Can I give him liver raw? And does that need to be frozen and defrosted before?

Any other cheap natural treat suggestions?

I apologise you must all be fed up of answering these kinda questions!

You don't even need to defrost the chicken wings if you don't want to! Mine often get frozen/partially defrosted meals in warm weather, like a meaty popsicle. You may find you need to hold part of the wing/leg at first until Zeph learns to chew the bones properly rather than swallow large bits like some dogs do with kibble.
Raw liver is fine, mine's always frozen first so I'd probably recommend freezing just to be safe. You can buy frozen liver slices to save you a job though.

You can always cook chopped up meat/fish/liver on a low temperature in the oven until dried out, then they keep for a bit longer. Just cook until they're completely dry, this may take several hours at around 140'C. Make good treats for training

Just remember if you're feeding raw food on top of kibble you may throw the balance out of whack. Feed only a little raw, or if Zeph really likes it, consider researching a raw diet properly and feeding one raw meal and one kibble meal a day (or switching to raw completely!). Kind of like the odd night out where you have a kebab after a few drinks despite having eaten dinner - once a month won't harm but if you started eating a kebab as well as your dinner every day you'll probably gain weight, and you'll unbalance your diet as you'll get too much protein/oil/fat.

Eww meaty popsicle lol!!

It will only be the odd treat here and there. And I will do the same as when I add a raw egg or some goats milk and give a little less kibble so he doesn't pile on weight.

maxandskye has a spectacular aura about
Sarah, its best if the chick is defrosted hun, & with the Liver raw is best but be careful not to feed anymore than an ounze aday, otherwise you will have a mess to clear up if you get my drift, LOL. I found with buying Liver that its best to bag up say 4 ounces of liver, freeze it & then just get a 4 ounze bag out of the freezer every 4 days & then defrost in the fridge, does that make sense hun ? lol

My OH gave my Belgian raw liver one day - he got it straight back

It was always cooked after that!

I also knew a man who was feeding his GSD's totally on raw liver - he could not understand why they were so thin!

Mine will eat liver but as Sue says they only get a little at a time,..the same goes for any of the offal, we will buy the ox heart in the small packets, what is it about a lb and a half,.. this goes between three dogs and is never fed on its own,..I often mix it, making a meal of heart with mince and egg, or simular.
[they dont usualy get bone in the first meal of the day,..only the second]

Heart is just muscle meat so should be fine to feed on its own. It's confusing but the heart, although an organ, is just a big muscle that contracts to pump blood around the body

Hi Sarah I'm like yourself give the odd bone and recently started giving chicken wings. My Luna 14 weeks loves her grub I feed her kibble she loves it. But now that I've started giving her wings she has been slightly turning her nose up at the kibble but is still eating it. So I'm cutting it down On the raw treats. incase she turns into a fussy eater like Skye. He will only eat his kibble when Luna has finished hers and proceeds onto his bowl. Lol. Or mixed with a little cottage cheese or yogurt. Sometimes cooked chicken..

I would always freeze and defrost any meat before feeding Hon
IMO all meat except Pork should be given Raw
Treats that are natural and very healthy are Dried Tripe sticks, and Pigs ears
I also sell them
Dried Tripe
1kg £9.50
But if more was ordered the price would come down too
Pigs ears 5 for £3.50

Postage on top though.
