Need some RAW advice.

Hey,

I have been going through the forum and learned alot from reading the topics on RAW feeding, but I have a few questions.

My dog has always been a fussy eater, at the minute I feed him dry meal but have to mix in chicken, mince etc to get him to eat it. Even then he wont always eat it. He has never liked dry meal.

Over the last few days I fed him whole chickens, pork and liver. He eats everything. But it has been to expensive for example,

Monday morning : Whole Chicken = £5
Monday Evening : Pork or mince = £3 and Liver = £1

Thats nearly £10 for the one day. Im trying to find a cheaper way of balacning out what I feed him, as I couldnt afford anywhere near that price everyday.

Also, I read heart is a must to feed them, but tried all butchers. Nowhere near me sells it. I have been feeding liver instead.

I also came across this site,

Berriewood Wholesale - Berriewood Frozen Food

The prices here seem good, has anyone used this site before or could recommend it?

At the minute im trying to decide weather to feed a raw diet, or change over to arden grange as ive heard good things about it and can get it for £26 a bag. And maybe mix in some tripe or chicken with it.

Sorry for the long post, but in short.

Can anyone give advice on the foods that are a must have when feeding raw, and wont be very expensive.

Is that website reliable? And what meat would be the best to buy off it?

Should I go just raw, or just use arden grange and mix in some raw?

Any advice would be great,

Thanks.

I use landywoods for my raw foods as only they or TPMS deliver in my area.
Landywood Pet Foods : Price List
T.P.M.S. Pet Food Specialists - Tripe - www.thedogsdinner.com
If feeding raw, you will need to include meats, offal and muscle meats. If you don't feed green tripe you may want to add some blended veg to one or two meals as well.

Hi and welcome. I feed my GSD raw for £7-8 a week.

Befriend your local butcher or meat market if you have one - they'll be able to source cheap meat and bone cuts for you.

An example of what I feed Remus per week - 5 lb of chicken wing tips, 5 lb of chicken carcasses, 5 lb of raw dog mix made up by the butcher (heart live lung tongue tripe and meat off cuts all minced up) cost is £4 for that lot.

Also some 'proper' meat if it's on offer at the supermarket i.e. minced lamb or beef or some chicken thighs. This is usually costs me £3. Plus he has about 3-4 eggs per week, rib bones which are free and this week's special freebie is half a pig's head.

Hey Anni,

I'd love to feed my dog for £8 a week. I tried some butchers in the town today, but they dont have any heart or chicken carcusses. They didnt even have bones either. I have one butchers left to try tomorrow. Hopefully they can help me out. Also, havent seen pigs head about. But sounds like something that my dog would love, would the local supermarkets sell these, tesco etc?

Berriewoods are reputable I have bought completes in bulk from them.
One of the suppliers you have been given their meat stinks to high heaven.

Do you have a decent Halhal meat supplier in your area? if so you should be able to source sheep hearts for 50p (which is a muscle meat and is fed like any other muscle meat) chicken wings 22p Lb, Chicken Breast £3.50 per KG, sheep/lamb liver 50p, sheep stomach (unprocessed tripe) 50p on average they weigh 2-3 lbs, plus many other cuts of meat eg lamb £5.50 per KG, lamb/sheep ribs £1.49 per KG all fit for human consumption.
