season questions!!!

sorry i havent posted for a very long time. ive had a real tough few months since my husband left, then my old dog was PTS and i have spent most of it wallowing in self pity!! im a getting back to myself now and have even managed to get a job which is a start to improving things. we had to sell my daugthers pony which was heartbreaking but i couldnt justify the costs etc and hes stayed in the family thankfully.

anyhow i will be around more now i hope and will try to get some updated pics of storm when i can. right so shes 9 months now and is having her first season (bleeding started tues). just a few questions as last dog was spayed after her 2nd season and i can remember that far back!

when brushing her today she didnt seem keen on my going near her back end/tummy area at all even though i only use a soft body brush. she gave a warning half growl/half yap and as i ignored it she turned round as if to nip but didnt if you know what i mean. could her tummy be tender??? i had an absolute fit of paranoia about pyometra and took her temp, checked mucas membranes, colour etc but all about normal and she has no other symptons so i am thinking it might be period pain type of thing??? never noticed it with any of my other bitches and i usually groom every other day.

secondly today when walking her she seemed to be showing aggression towards other dogs. she was on the lead and usually walks past with minimal notice but she was lunging (even though on halti) and barking. and sort of growling/yapping at same time?? she certainly didnt seem to want to mate thats for sure. also (looking now it was stupid) i let her off when no-one else abot and she wouldnt come back!!! despite having usually good recall she seemed more interested in sniffing the grass and trees. she also wasent as interested in playing fetch with her ball and kept bringing it back but refusing to drop it and wandering off with it. i had to psysically capture her so i wont be letting her off again!

shes also being more vocal in the house and is eating alot faster and is much more interested in her food! sure all this is normal but i just want to check as she is just like one of my kids and id hate to think she was ill or anything not normal. ive read loads on the web but just wanted to check with you guys before i bug my vet AGAIN

ive put a pic of storm still enjoying being on the carpets thanks to my inventions hehe

Yep, sounds normal. The hormones are raging & she hasn't learnt how to deal with them yet. At the moment she won't want dogs around her, she'll be grumpy & a little snappy. By the 2nd week, though, you'd better watch out!
