poisoned algae

Dogs can become ill from algae

Is your dog restless, shivering, vomiting and staggering after you have gone hiking or playing in the water?
Contact your veterinarian immediately!
The possibility is high that it has received in the algal toxins that can cause death within an hour.
Right now in progress an unusual late algal bloom, according to animal insurance company Agria in a statement.

The dogs are poisoned algae is not particularly common, but it happens.
Over the past ten years, some twenty dogs treated by veterinarians because of algae poisoning.
Unfortunately, and sadly that few dogs have died because they have not received treatment in time.


It is important to control the dog so it does not bathe in or drink water with algae.


The greatest risk of the dog ingest algae, it is after a bath and licking the fur dry.

Symptoms of algal poisoning comes quickly, in some cases already within 30 minutes.
They vary in strength depending on how old the dog is, how much algae it has been, and how much they have eaten beforehand.

- The first symptom is that the dog becomes agitated, shaking and throwing up.

She further says that if the dog shows symptoms, you should see that it has access to clean water, but do not give it anything to eat.

yeah.. got a poster from my insurance company saying this... well..we soon have icy lakes... but for all those that dont have icy lakes...u all should know

It said on the news the other day that the dogs that have been falling ill and dying in the Nottingham wood land now seem to think that it is blue green algie they have found traces of it in the water even after all the rain we had

I am going to be extra vigilant about what water my boys go in, although I only let them go in clear flowing water, this has freaked me out!
