Thanks Pam thats interesting .

Hopefully it will eventually be included in Breeder tests. AF is horrible and very difficult to get rid of. If its possible to eliminate a disease through breeding which can result in an otherwise healthy dog having to be put to sleep then it should be done.

I will certainly be asking about AF in the parents the next time I buy a pup, it would seem clear that there is a genetic link.

At what age can the test be carried out. Is there an age limit. Will vets know about these tests Pam ?

Does anyone know of breeders doing this test on their breeding dogs? As I would love another GSD in the future but wont unless the dogs are AF tested!

Cant remember the Breeders name but I got Cimba from Winterton and she suffered with AF

Thought I would just flag this up as it is now confirmed Leo has AF the genetic link would seem pretty conclusive. I have mother and son now diagnosed with it.
