Any advice please

Hello everyone I'm new here,I have a german shepherd called sam and when he needs to poo he seems to be in pain because he makes moaning sounds could this be constipation?Sam doesn't like the vets so it will be very difficult for vet to check him properly, what can I do?

Thanks for your help Phil

how long has this gone on for,is there any blood,is he eating the same, have you changed his food?
i think i would be at the vets personally.i would call them first to explain how he is with the vet,see what they suggest.they will be used to dogs frightened of them..

Thanks for replying Phil

super D has a spectacular aura about
When he does "GO" whats the poop like.
If your worried I would firstly get a muzzle so there is no risk of Sam having a pop at the vets, and secondly change vets, to one who is more sympathetic Phill xxx

Hello Sarah,Sam has always done lots of poops during the day, when he does poop sometimes just small lumps come out or sometimes he squats and nothing comes out,Don't think the vet is helping by moaning at me for saying I should control him better, theres probably loads of dogs just like sam who don't like vets

It certainly sounds as though you need to find another vet! He isn't at all helpful, is he? But to the point in hand. It sounds as though your boy is constipated, but as to the reason, that's a more difficult question to answer.

What do you feed him on? Is it tinned, dry, raw etc? Do you swap & change his food?

I agree with Caryll, find another vet, no vet should act like that or give advice without examination,.. the dog growling is just another sign that there is probably something wrong, it could be that the anal glands need cleaning out,..a simple job if the vet took the time to get someone to hold the head, and examine

ArchandEbs will become famous soon enough
Hi Phil - I would take him to another vet. When I adopted Harry he wouldn't let anyone examine him. My vet told me to bring him up and allowed me to go into the the consulting rooms with him and we fed him treats. After several visits (the vet never examined him during these visits) eventually he was able to do a full exam on him including an internal examination. I am lucky my vets are very patient.

Sorry this isn't answering your question - but not all vets are the same.
