Kennel cough is a yearly vaccination/drops. Need to be given if they havent' been done within the year at least a fortnight before they go into kennels..

I always decline this when the Ellie and Jones have their boasters, because I don't plan to put them in kennels, as rescue dogs I sort of feel that they've had enough of kennels..

Funny enough I was going to ask about kennel cough!
Bodie had his booster jab last week, Yesterday and this morning he seems to have early symptoms, (cant tell yet, seems to be like as if he is clearing his throat) caught it from the vets?
I know our old dog Sam did by going into the vets.
So I will have to see how he goes, then take him BACK to the place where I reckon he caught it!

Kennel cough is very contagious. It's not just in kennels.. it can be caught out on walks from spores left on grass etc. Some friends of mine's dogs have had it, they didn't vaccinate as their dogs don't go in kennels but both their sheps caught it from walking the route of dogs which had it. Worse in the early morning and evening when there's more moisture in the air.

I won't take the risk, I get mine done. It doesn't prevent it 100% but reduces chances and symptoms. So far *touches wood* mine haven't had it.

This is interesting as I got a call from Kaisers trainer on friday night making me aware that a dog in his class has been diagnosed with kennel cough
She said Just to be on the look out for any symptoms and be careful with Link.
Also their vet advised if dogs not showing any symptoms by monday then they should be ok.
I dont vaccinate my dogs in the traditional way, apart from their puppy vacs thats it.
Instead of continuing with annual boosters I vaccinate using homeopathic tablets (which covers all inc kennel cough)
When Link is due a booster she will start the homeopathic vacs.
All of the dogs at training have the trad vacs and some the kennel cough vac but still end up getting it

Zeus, ciara and purdie have all caught it last week- the only place all 3 of them were together was training! Zeus has been on anti biotics for the last 3 weeks for an upper respiratory infection so wouldn't have thought he'd have caught it at this exact time! Poor boy xxx I checked his innoc papers but can't see if he's had the jab or not. Will be getting it done if not as it's not nice seeing him suffer !

Archie had a very mild dose of it a couple of years back. He'd had his booster, but caught it at the kennels when we were on holiday for a week anyway.

He would have a little cough in the mornings, a bit of throat-clearing, and that was it -- although he was less interested than usual in food, but would eat.

Poly is a jewel in the rough
I only ever gave one of mine it once - prior to going into kennels...

I thought this last year, but unfortunatly due to circumstances had no choice.
No I dont have the luxury of an alternative.

Sam is a rescue dog to, but hes fine in kennels too, the owners always take pitty on him and let him sleep in the wardens house

Thanx all for your replies.

Hi Linda

Can I ask what homeopathic tablets you give as I have been considering doing this.

Louise
