Allergies?

Hi all I put a thread up a few weeks ago about fox mange. A vet I saw thought my boy jenson had it. We treated for it but he was still generally itchy. Went back to vets and they booked him in for skin scraps and blood tests to confirm if he had mites and all came back clear!! :-)
We are due to go back next week to start talks about maybe a food allergy?
Has anyone else had this? What should I expect next?
Thanx guys x

Sonya, has he had a full skin mark up done? This needs a GA as they take tissue biopsies, scrapes of tissue (several layers to make it bleed), some hair, nose swabs, and bloods.

I had one done for my dog last year and the test also included food and environmental allergies.

If it is food allergy it will say on the results - giving scores like 0 = no tendency, to 5 = high tendency.. of say, lamb, or rice etc. I think it was called a Sensitest.

Don't know if this helps..

I dont think he has had that done? He didnt have a GA. They did a blood test, skin scraps ( and it bled) and hair folical testing under a microscope. But I think they were only testing for mites to make sure he didn't have fox mange or scabies! Maybe they will do more tests. Hopefully!!
Thanx Anni

yes both skin scrape and the blood test are for mites
the punch biopsies Anni is refering to are taken under GA and are for allergy and other tests

Thanx I will ask about that and hopefully get him sorted quickly. I thort I'd have to put him on strict diet for a while then change it around to see if he still itched. Glad it can be done easier than that!
