Another itchy skin question
Hi All
I have had a look back on previous posts and there are already a few on this subject but Ella's problem is a bit different so thought i would ask anyway!
Ella is my 4 year old GSD, for the last 4 months she has been scratching constantly and caused herself to bleed, i spoke to a nutritionalist and he suggested changing her food, therefore we have changed her food to a hypo-allergenic food with none of the bad ingredients in and a wet natural food, which she loves and it did ease the itching off. 3 weeks ago we had her spayed, this caused her a bit of stress and she started to moult excessively, it could be down to heat as well! this started her excessive scratching off again! to combat this we brushed her regulary and brought a moulting oil to go on food from pets at home and bathed her in medicated shampoo, this stopped moulting but only stopped scrathing for 3 days now she is scrating constantly again. i have just brushed her not much fur but loads of flaky skin!!! do you think it could be down to dry skin or someting more? Any suggestions of a good shampoo or oil or anything else? sorry for long post but i think all may be relavant in finding out cause? forgot to add she doesnt have any fleas!
any help would be gratefully received!!
Thankyou!!!

Someone has recommended Malaseb shampoo to me, you have to but it from the vet + it's about £24 a bottle
I've just bought some + going to try it on Tilly's paws this weekend. People have said it's fantastic stuff, might be worth a try x

We've used that shampoo over the years with different dogs.
Always found it very good.
None of my dogs had serious skin problems though.
Good luck.

Try bathing her in Quistel shampoo dear but excellent no script needed a good pet shop should be able to order it for you or purchase online.
As a dietary supplement get Udos Oil from the fridge section in Holland & Barrat - it is a vegetarian oil so wont cause allergies, it is a good source of omega 3,6, & 9 and recommended to me in person by George Burns of Natural dog food, healthy, hypoallergenic, holistic dog food from Land of Holistic Pets

Besides all the good suggestions already offered I would also try giving her a tin of sardines in her food.
Layla had some terrible itching when we first got her and it was here that I found out about the sardines. It worked very well for us.
I initially gave her a tine of sardines every other day and as the itching slowed I cut back. Nowadays she gets a tin about once a week or if I see her starting to itch more than normal. Hope this helps.

Hi there, have you tried fucuderm gel?
I used the maleseb shampoo and this gel on my gsd and it cleared the irritation up the first time but it returned and was twice as bad and turned out he needed antibiotics as his itching turned into pyoderma. I hope yours isn't this bad but i ended up shaving his coat off completely to allow me to make sure the cream got right onto the skin. Hope this helps

Hi
My MIL has a jack russell that is allergic to grass when it is cut in summer - she tried him with hayfever tablets (childs dose- 1/2 a tablet) and it as all cleaned up. I've also read that Evening Primrose Oil supplements can help skin problems in pets, but don't personally know anyone who has tried this.
I had Freya spayed in March and she also moulted really badly afterwards - Vet said that it was just hormones.

Rogue also has itchy skin..... it seems to come and go at the moment but the one re-occuring factor is the heat. It started off when she got fleas so i wondered if it was a flea allergy. However she now has no fleas but still is ragging at the skin on her back and legs.
Someone asked me the other day if she had mange!!
I'm hoping that increasing the oil in her diet will start to help, we're moving her off commercial cry food and on to as much raw as we can, so again i hope this helps!
Keep us posted!
