Poor Blitz
My boy is under the weather, no thanks to me!
Yesterday as we left the house for his evening walk I stopped in the garden to put my iPod on. While I was messing with headphones he ran at the cat, they stood taunting eachother for a minute then I put him on the lead and set off.
I knew as soon as we left something wasn't quite right, I thought he was limping but I wasn't sure. We went a bit further so I could figure out what was going on. He seemed to be limping on his front left leg. I stopped, did the usual checks, shoulder, leg, pads etc and decided he must have landed funny chasing the cat and he would probably walk it out soon.
I carried on, his limp didn't ease but it didn't get worse. We got to the field and I let him off lead. He seemed about the same for 5 mins until he suddenly got worse. I put him back on his lead and decided to head home. We got onto the path out of the field we were about to cross the road when suddenly his leg fell underneath him and he collapsed. He was shaking head to toe and he tried and failed to get up and weightbear.
We sat there I tried my best to calm him while trying to figure what to do. I realised we had stopped just down the road from my uncles house. When I called he was two minutes away in the car, he was with us nearly immediately. Blitz managed to get in the car and we got home. We had to lift him out, we think he was scared of landing on his bad foot.
We think his left elbow is swollen but apart from that there are no signs of injury. Today he seems better. I held off going to the vets and with him making an improvement today I don't think I want to put him through the stress of taking him. Ofcourse if anything changes I'll be there straight away but right now I just think he is best at home resting it off.
I had such an emotional day yesterday, I shouldn't have gone any further when I noticed the limp, but its not uncommon for him to get a cramp and walk it off. Just so pleased he seems ok.
My mum was here when my uncle dropped us off. We lay Blitz on the grass while trying to find the cause. Mum and Unk couldn't believe how patient he was while clearly in pain. He's a good dog bless him.
I'll keep you all updated xxx
