Zeus dicky belly

Hi all, could I just have a bit of advice ? Zeus woke me up sat night/Sunday morning with the runs. He was and is full of energy, was fine at training. We starved him on Sunday and fed him boiled chicken and rice for breakfast and lunch yesterday (small amounts) . We went for a walk with mel and ciara last night and he ran round like a loon for 2hrs. He had a poo which was of cowpat consistency as opposed to water . He had scrambled eggs for tea but woke me at 3am this morning to go out and had the runs again! Should I starve him again today or feed him the rice and chicken? He is full of beans, nose nice and wet so don't really think he's ill apart from the runs! Thanks xxxx

Personally, I'd give him the rice and chicken. I'd be concerned that stopping and starting his feeds a couple of times over a few days wouldn't allow his gut flora to adjust itself and regain its balance. Very small feeds spread over the course of the day and see how he is tomorrow. Hope he feels better soon x

Mazz is on a distinguished road
Hope your baby feels better soon.
We had this awhile with Jazmin.
I don't know if it's the same with Zeus, but the egg made our Jazmin's tummy bad.
She used to like scrambled egg as a baby but now it upsets her tummy.

Tickles and cuddles for baby Zeus. xx

Has he had chicken before? I only ask because poultry is one of the most common food intolerances for dogs.

If he's normally ok with chicken, I'd keep up with the chicken & rice, but in three or four small meals during the day so that you don't overload his stomach. Possibly also give him a little natural probiotic yoghurt.

Hi caryll, thanks for your idea! Zeus is raw fed and has chicken or turkey everyday so don't think it's the chicken- but keep the ideas coming!! Xxx

I always feed chicken and boiled rice when any of my dogs are ill - normally they wont eat anything if they are that ill - so if he is still full of beans I would continue with the chicken and rice but if still runny poos in a couple of days and he is getting lethargic off to the vet!

You could try some Arrowroot. Either sprinkle it over the food, if he'll eat it like that (mine won't!), or put 2 large teaspoons in a cup & mix to a paste with a little water; then slowly add more water (about 250ml) mixing well; add to a saucepan (I also add a spoonful of honey or brown sugar to make it palatable) and heat till it begins to thicken, stiring constantly; Allow to cool - it should resemble a yucky gel-like goo! My dog loves it & it seems to settle his stomach most times.
