FOOD AND HOUSING

Hi there, i have owned a male gsd for nearly 8 years now, and i recently got a female gsd aged 13 weeks now. My older shep titon is suffering with Pyoderma and cant help but think its something i have inflicted on him whether it would be his food, or the surroundings in which he is kept. he was on bakers food for a long time but over the last year he has been fed James wellbeloved. He is housed in a kennel outside for the day and comes into the home at night, the kennel is on paving stones with grass surrounding him. Would his 'home' outside be causing the irritation on his skin to get worse? Or is it something inside? Just trying to get an insight on what may be causing this skin condition and if i can prevent it from re-appearing and also to make sure the younger pup doesn't get it. Any ideas?

Claire x

Claire, you would probably have to get some skin testing done to see if it's related to his housing / environment. Dust mites can aggravate pyoderma, so using waterproof bedding and regular hoovering of the areas Titon goes is useful.

I agree with anni you need to get your vet to do some tests, he could have an allergy to grass, house mites, etc. xx

Have you used anything like Shake n Vac indoors - this can cause severe skin irritation in some dogs.

No never used the stuff, i think we may have a solution. Iv been advised to put sudocrem on his sores and so far no itching!
Thankyou for your replys although i will still get a skin test done to clarify what upsets his skin.
