is it ever going to END???

Ok, got up this morning to be confronted with a VERY funny looking Rogue.. overnight she has developed this bloody great LUMP on her bottom jaw!!!

It has just got steadily bigger all day, although its started draining something puss-ish and naaaaasty.

ANOTER trip to the vet and she's decided its not an abscess but it could be somthing to do with her lymph gland, or a blocked saliva gland. Whatever it is, it doesn't look good!!

So, to go with the anti histamines, garlic and cod liver oil tablets she is on broad spectrum anti-biotics (y'know, the expensive kind?) and an anti inflammatory.

Oh, and add to that she's STILL SCRATCHING!!!!

still, one good thing tho, i've managed to book her AND bandit in for their check-up together next week.... might just get charged one consultation fee this time....

Hmmm - Mason was at the vets last week with a lump under his jaw (but at the neck end, under the beauty spot). I montored it for a couple of days before taking him. The vet took his temperature (normal), ruled out an infection and then told me if it hadnt gone in a week to take him back for sedation & biopsy. Thankfully it disappeared a couple of days later - but we are still none the wiser what caused it. I must say though, that his was right under the skin and not attached to it, so it doesnt sound like it could have been the same.

Could Rogue have been playing with one of the cats and got a puncture wound which has become infected? I am probably wrong (usually am) but I would have thought that if it was one of the glands, that it would drain into the body, rather than out. If it was purely a gland problem, there wouldnt be an exit point through the skin????? I know that your vet has said it's not an abcess, but I cant see how it can be a gland.

Well, thats what i thought, because it seems to go from her lip which is where the little exit wound is, but it goes far back until it gets right under her jaw.

I can imagine it being the cat, she tried to play with bandit last night when he was out of his crate and he really swiped at her, so i thought it was an infection at first. The bit at the front is, apparently and she did have a bit of a temperature tonight which i would have thought would indicate an infection.

Hopefully is just a swelling, and the anti inflammatorys will do their job.

Fingers crossed, they talked of a GA and a biopsy tonight if it didn't go down after a week.

It just all seems to be happening at once at the mo!!

Poor you - Its not fun. I made the mistake of googling, and never again......most sites had my poor pup being cremated within a fortnight!

Anyhow, I really hope that it is just an abcess - certainly the temperature would suggest infection and the ab's do their job. Do please let us know...

That would be my thought, too. They so easily become infected, but if that's the case the anti-bs and anti-inflams will do the trick.

Well, Rogue is alot better today, the swelling is almost all gone although it still feels a bit solid under her jaw... she's still looking so sorry for herself with her fur all patchy!!

The vet said she was underweight too which i was a bit upset at, but i'm adding some more rice to her food in the hope that i can bulk her up a bit for next week. Apparently i need to feed her as much as she will eat..... only problem is she will probably eat me out of house and home before she stops!!

Does anyone have any little tips about what i can add to her food to help her get well???

Would she eat some green tripe? Most dogs love it and it's a good food for building them up a bit.

Hope she's feeling lot's better soon.

I would suggest raw green tripe, Carbs dont bode well with dogs so they wont add weight on.
Lamb and mutton minces and beef would be good too
