Sapying query...again!

Diva's just finished her second season and we want to have her spayed as soon as it is possible. Our vets reckons 2 months after the start of this second season as she had a short break of only 4 months between the first and second seasons.

I have however read and heard that it should be 2 or 3 months after the end of the season, not the start of it so a bit confused here??!!

I have also been told by another vet that we should have it done 3 weeks after the end of this season..I couldnt believe it so had her repeat. It seems such a short time for her body to recover from the season..

Ay advice welcome because this is a major op and we want it done properly.

Our vet said that too, just to get the hormone level right.
Good luck with your baby girl.
Getting Jazmin speyed was the best thing we have ever done for her.

Had Ellie spayed after her 1st season, I rang my vet the first day she came into season and she was booked in 3 months later!

The reason for doing a spaying mid way between season is to try to catch the hormones at their lowest ebb.. So if her season are only 4 months apart around the 2 month mark would be around the mid way..

Partly it is to make sure she is in between seasons so if she is a bit irregular that is why they are saying a shorter time. Although its also hormone level related I think it is far more important that she is not starting another season.

The reason for mid season spaying is because when a bitch is in season her uterus becomes very engorged and the blood supply a lot greater than when she is not.
If the vet operates on a bitch in season, the blood vessels that supply the uterus are very big and there is a much greater risk of the bitch heamorrhaging if the ligatures used come undone or slip.
Its a bit like the difference between trying to stop a hose pipe or a drinking straw with just your finger.
I would suggest that as she has a short interlude between her season the vet has suggested 2 months instead of the normal 3.

Thanks for all your advice, very much appreciated. However the bit Im really confusesd about is how to you calculate when to spay: is it 2 months from the start of the season or from the end of it? As it could make a difference. Ta!

I would say from the end of the season personally.
