I think that is ridiculous to be honest!
How are you meant to keep an 11 month old GSD 'resting' for a week!!! She will be climbing the walls.
Even with people, hospitals like to get them up and about as soon as possible after an operation. They even discharge new mums after 24 hours nowadays!
Obviously you don't want her running around and play fighting with other dogs, but I cannot see what harm a half hour lead walk would do.
Like I said my GSD had her spleen removed in a two hour operation (
big scar), she had the operation on the Monday and we picked her up on the following Thursday (they wanted to keep her in longer but could not get her to eat). I immediately started to lead walk her and after 10 days she was back to her normal walks with my other dogs, running around and playing.
Maybe they are being over cautious and covering their own backs just in case something goes wrong!
Sometimes it is best to just use your own common sense.
