Whats going on? In season? Problem?

Hi,

Lexi is 8 months old, and about 6 weeks ago we thought she had her first season. The local dog trainer told us about 6 week ago she thought lexi was coming into season, and within the next few days we noticed just one or 2 drops of blood in the house. Male dogs were going mad for her so we knew she was in season. I waited about 4 weeks and she seemed to be out of season, no blood and no males going crazy for her. Now today, we've found more like 12 drops of blood around the house, and i lay her down to have a look and she had a little bit of blood around her 'bits'.

Im only worried now because i thought she should be out of season, or did we misread it last time and actually she wasn't in season.

Should i be worried? Do i need a trip to the vets? Not got a clue when it comes to this sort of thing.

She has probably had a very long season. It is nothing to worry about but probably worth popping her to the vet as it might be better to spay her sooner rather than waiting another year so so. My Sami had a 6 week season more than once and ending up being spayed.

I would pop her to the vets, always best to be safe than sorry, especially as you don't have much experience of bitches and seasons.

Is she well otherwise? Not drinking excessively or off her food/depressed?

Sue

no she is fine in herself she isn't a big eater anyway but is fine drinking and just in general, they only reason I haven't taken her to the vet is I know they are just going to tell me that she needs to be spayed and I don't want her done yet I was hoping to let her have 2 seasons to mature and then get her done, has no one else experienced a longer season or it is a something you have never heard off and then I will be straight to the vet

Thanks

Mike

Yes Mike my Sami always had very long seasons 6 to 8 weeks. She was fine in herself although we did end up with an accidental pregnancy because the vet kept telling me it wouldnt be possible for her to get caught but he was wrong!!!

After she had the pups, (she was just about 2 years old) she bled constantly and we ended up having to have an urgent spay because she was becoming so ill.
